The first date can be intimidating as you feel butterflies in your stomach. Why worry?
Take a deep breath and let's talk business.
Regarding the clothes, wear what makes you feel comfortable. They don't have to be brand new or trendy, instead go for good-looking, smart, and what makes you feel yourself. If you insist to have some options, you can put on a nice pair of jeans, a basic t-shirt, and a jacket or blazer with flat shoes or heels. You can also try a printed dress with sandals or boots.
As for choosing the place, if you don’t know each other, go to a public place like a café but also quiet to get the chance to talk freely. If you knew each other and have a mutual interest in Arts as an instance: you can attend a theater or comedy show or maybe visit a museum. If you both are energetic and funky, you can try a bold choice like a trampoline park or playing arcade games. In general, I recommend you choose something out of the box; to be stress-free, also I believe doing activities together reveals much of your personality rather than an ordinary talk.
Here comes the interesting part that you probably read the article for: what to talk about? Stick to talking about hobbies, interests, friends, travels, food, movies and things will be at ease. You can also dig deeper and bring up philosophic questions in the form of what motivates you in life? and that kind of stuff. However, stay away from religion and politics in the first date. I know deep down that is more challenging if you are more of a listener, so to jump into the conversation: start by commenting on what your date says.
Apart from all of that, express who you really are, be confident, and have fun. Think of it as an experience to get to know a person closely, and even if they are not your perfect match, you can still win each other as friends.
