Five seconds – that's all it takes to build your self-confidence
In my second year at university, my professor asked a question about Shakespeare's play "The Tempest". It's a play that I love and adore. I tried to raise my hand while anxiety and fear fought me. My mind echoed that it was a bad idea.
"I would look very stupid if I spoke in front of all these people", it said.
So, I kept silent.
Every day I meet a lot of women like me, who are afraid to express themselves or take the initiative and speak in front of an audience. Some of them are even afraid to talk.
There are many logical and acceptable reasons for this. Some of them are external with regard to society, especially our Arab society, where women fall easy prey to criticism over the smallest and most trivial things. The second a woman opens her mouth here, objectors and critics line up around her. And there are internal reasons that contain mind games. As for the latter, the only way to eliminate them is to strengthen women's self-confidence. A person's confidence can be strengthened only from within, which is why many tricks have been invented, and one of the most successful tricks is the five-second rule.
With a simple solution, American lawyer "Mel Robbins" put an end to anxiety and fears that the mind creates before the action begins, and boosts her self-confidence. She says in her book the 5-second rule "If you have the intention to do something, you must act within five seconds, otherwise your mind will stop you".
Robbins confirmed that you only need to count down audibly from the number 5 to 1 to take the initiative and do something without hesitation.
Where counting makes you focus on the tasks you want to accomplish without feeling afraid or anxious, and your mind wouldn't have enough time to make excuses and build obstacles.
This trick is not only about difficult challenges. It's also usable for all everyday tasks. Such as getting out of bed in the morning, going to the gym, reading a book, or meeting new people. Furthermore, you can use it to stop a bad habit.
Change is not easy, but simple! You will be amazed by how easy everyday actions and tasks can be without delay, procrastination, anxiety, and fear. With each completed task, your self-confidence and self-esteem will boost.
It only takes five seconds to change your day, just one day can change your life, and your life can change the whole world.
You are unique, Let the world see you.
