How to build a healthy relationship with your child?
Mother & child relationship is so unique; it's more than love at first sight; they love and feel you before they ever see you, just as you did before you saw them. It's a pure love! And as time passes, this relationship evolves from simply meeting their basic requirements, such as feeding them, arranging their clothes, and putting their things away, to something really special, in which they need your love, your point of view, and your advice more than ever before. So, your relationship with your child needs to be healthy from the first day, as it will be the form of your relationship in the future. Women’s Avenues got you some tips for a mother & child healthy relationship.
1- Always ask for their opinions:
When your child gets used to expressing their opinion, this will help develop their social and intellectual intelligence. It will help them in the future to express their opinions without feeling scared or shy. Contrast appears in people whose parents didn’t allow them to express their opinions, And as a result, their personalities became weak.
2- Always express your love to them
Sigmund Freud once said: “How brave a person can be when they know they are loved!” and this is simply the impact of love on us, it makes us stronger!
Expressing love for our children -especially in their first years- will improve their self-confidence & make them feel they’re truly accepted, and this will make it hard for anything to hurt them. Also, there will be a strong connection between both of you.
You can express this by mentioning their good qualities or their talents, hugging them from time to time, hanging out with them, giving them a present, etc…
3- Make them get used to talking with you:
Sharing can make our lives better. Always make your child get used to sharing their thoughts, and talking with you about their day like what happened at the school, what bothered them, which part of the day was their best, and so on.
It will help you teach them which things are right & which are not, and how to react. This will help them think in a good way through situations they have already passed.
4- Share your thoughts with them:
As we mentioned before, sharing is important! Always share your thoughts & feelings -that are suitable for them- with your children. like what made you sad, which things have given you pleasure today. Such things will make your relationship closer. And later, you will know that you really need to share with them!
5- Talk about their dreams and what they need to change:
Your children's world is so tiny, unlike the world that is in their brains, which has huge energy, and the ability to imagine & dream. Always talk with your child about what they want to be, what their dreams are, which things they need to change, and so on. This will help them grow with positive & optimistic thoughts, encourage them to study & learn better, and build the need for ambition & success in their souls.
6- Make time for them:
The easiest way to get closer to your children is to spend more time with them like playing with them, hanging out together, cooking together, etc. This will strengthen your relationship and won’t make them seek attention or care from anybody else. Family time will help you know your children closely and the difference between each one of them.
7- Be the source of trust and safety for them:
Teach your children that we live to pass through everything and that we will almost certainly make mistakes. What matters is how you deal with them. and how to get along with them?
Make it a habit for your children to get back to you once they face something big or difficult on them. This will help you gain their trust and make them safe.
