How to lay back while on lockdown
During the pandemic we’ve been given the gift of time. Most of us work from home, or remotely with fewer days a week in-office. We’ve been going through lockdown for nearly 2 months now and we all have to be home before 9. Which gives us tons of free time, us busy bees, never had the luxury of. It also gives us the time to spend with our families and partners. It is a new era where we are more important than what we do. Some of us use the time to get productive. Others were constantly wishing to have the time to relax, lay back, and catch up on all the lovely things they’d been missing due to the unreasonable work-commute-house-chores hours. For those I would like to announce: the world had made the decision to entertain us! Places like Broadway, Shakespeare globe, our ministry of culture have uploaded and unlocked some of its material and given us access for free! Museums like the Louvre, Van Gogh and the Vatican have uploaded virtual free tours available online. It is not like the real thing that’s for sure, but you get to break the habit and take a look at stuff you wouldn’t have if not for the dreadful times we’re going through. So, if you are into arts, or looking to revive old talents and enrich your senses, here’s a list of the most important art venues that offered its material online:
Google teamed up with the majority of the most famous museums around the world and uploaded online exhibits for museums like Van Gogh, MoMA, Museo Frida Kahlo, Opera national de Paris, and many others that are organized alphabetically. The exhibit is as simple as the painting and its description. It is amazing if you are interested in paintings and art history and have a taste for galleries and museums.
If you have a thing for theatre and acting, Broadway hd offers you a 7-day free trial access to its unlimited library of performances that are ad free. If you get hooked and really like it, the monthly subscription is somewhere around 150 pounds. It might be a good price for entertainment. It is almost as good as Netflix for theatre nerds!
Another gift for theatre nerds! Shakespeare’s globe uploaded some of its best Shakespearean plays on their YouTube channel for free. We all know what Shakespeare is for theatre fellows; he’s the father of drama for crying outloud! If you’re practicing to become an actress, watching and watching and watching some more to become a kickass director, studying plot lines and details to apply on your writing project, or just a drama fanatic, then shakespeare’s globe is the channel for you! A tip: Macbeth will premiere on the channel for free on the 11th of May, set your reminders!!
If you’re not into English shows and dramas, Egypt is offering its library also for free on youtube. It is an amazing resource for the best forms of entertainment. Different performances such as concerts, ballet, and plays are available all of the time for free. It is an amazing time to be stuck at home, laying back with your shows and your laptop in your room.
If you’re not a theatre fan, and more into movies and series. Vudu offers a huge selection of free English movies and series of all genres. The only setback is that they are not the most recent movies out there. However, it has lots of forgotten gems that’s for sure. Take a quick tour and you will find lots of catchy titles. Their action and thriller collection is amazing. But the best of it is its horror section. It has some of the best old but gold movies that we all love.
It seems like the world is standing hand in hand in solidarity to offer means of entertainment alongside education. Almost everything is now available online to encourage us to do the right thing: to stay at home! Even if the curfew hours are getting less, we’re still in the same crisis, don’t leave your home unless it is urgent. Have fun laying back.
