Trauma and sexual disorders
<<Al Leyla Wa Elly Feeha>> a new series premiered on Shahid, stars Zeina, Mohamed Shahin, Abyusif, Alaa Morsy, and Samah Anwar.
From the first 2 episodes, we can tell that it’s a bold start full of mystery, excitement, and suspense. Zeina said that this series is her apology to her audience, and that’s true because we saw her impressive performance and it’s all different from anything she has done before and she could show us how she’s struggling between the past of the character and her present.
But today we’re not here to talk about the impressive performance of the cast or the great script and direction. We’ll talk about the topic discussed in the series that nearly hadn’t been discussed in any other Egyptian drama.
The series talks about the trauma she has been throw from a young age that caused her psychiatric disorders, and the most obvious disorder is a sexual disorder called (Masochism).
Trauma happens for a lot of reasons like road accidents, harassment, rape, or like Al Leyla Wa Elly Feeha confinement and father abandonment.
Trauma doesn’t affect everyone in the same way, some people can get through it and others may be stuck in it for a long time and must get treatment to safely get past it.
According to Medical New Today, Trauma or PTSD has many symptoms, such as:
- feelings of guilt and blame
- inability to remember some aspects of the event
- feeling detached and estranged from others and emotionally and mentally numbed
- difficulty concentrating
- mental health problems, such as depression, phobias, and anxiety
- Sleep disorders
- Or like Al Layla Wa Elly Feeha Sense of inferiority and desire for pain (Masochism)
There are many types of sexual disorders but their reasons are different, they may be because of:
- Childhood trauma
- Lack of self-esteem
- Family issues
- Psychiatric disorders like anxiety and depression
So, Is all abnormal sexual orientation a sexual disorder?
The answer is no, not every sexual orientation different from the norm is considered a sexual disorder but they are preferences.
Picture from “Darb El Hawa” film.
Sexual disorders make the person feel depressed, and ashamed of himself because of his desire, and that’s what the series is discussing, the relationship between masochism and trauma.
A masochist enjoys suffering and pain whether psychological pain through insulting or physical pain and exaggerated sacrifice.
For a very long time, it was a belief among scientists and people that only women who love masochism and enjoy it whether through the controls imposed on them by the man or through sex.
They assumed that it’s the nature of women and she was born carrying it in her soul, and they justified this claim by the fact that she loves her baby even after suffering the pain of childbirth!
But it’s not true, scientists found out that a lot of men love feeling pain from the girl they love or from their wives whether through insults or physical pain or wanting her to cheat on him to feel its pain too. Most of us have seen messages like (I want to be your servant and lick your feet) sent by men.
Masochism can be caused by natural desires or sexual disorders such as:
- Sexual abuse, harassment, or rape
- Blind obedience from a young age
- Physical abuse
- A person's sense of inadequacy
A masochist gets attracted to toxic and abusive relationships and tolerates a lot of pain without even showing that they are in pain because it is their way to feel proud of themselves and that they are worthy of something.
Masochism that happens due to trauma can be treated easily through psychotherapy.
So, tell us, are you excited to watch the series?
