What are women's duties?
The whole social media channels are discussing a new topic on the battlefield between women & men, this time, the topic is about women’s duties. It all started when the Egyptian lawyer, Nihad Abo Elkomsan, said that women aren’t bound to breastfeed their children, and if they did it, they should be paid.
Let’s agree that life changes over time, and so do people's mentalities. Women became more conscious about work & ambition because of the idea itself or due to life commitments and the need to increase their income. We will find this if we compare the ratio between women who work currently and in the past.
Pew Research Center said that the ratio of families with full-time working parents has increased to 46%, compared to the '70s when it was 31%. And according to a survey done, home commitments are being done equally between fathers & mothers in families with full-time working parents.
Father’s roles & commitments have also changed over time, since he has a greater role in participating in home commitments besides his own work, exactly like the mother. This change has had a significant impact on feelings of contentment between spouses and raising healthy children, says Dr. Helen Egger, co-founder and chief medical officer of Little Otter, the digital platform for children's mental health.
Although the ratio of working mothers has increased, the status in middle east societies is different. As usually women try to do both, work and raise a family, and be successful, all home commitments are up to her, like feeding the kids, arranging their clothes, cleaning, etc. And if we take a look at the father’s role in the eastern societies, we see that they consider themselves as ATMs, the source of money, and decline any other roles that fathers should do. So women start to make concessions, and men start to lose their sentimental feelings for their children. And here we go again! We see new discussions about how much women are gloomy, and men are just ATMs!
Marriage is all about cooperation and love, the two parties cooperate to get a happy life and raise healthy children, and here the challenges are greater if they had children. And as usual in the eastern society, it puts too many responsibilities on women, while the man is the one who chooses to be just the source of money . He ignores his responsibilities in raising kids such as containment, advice, teaching children some activities, or at least dedicating time to his children.
Marriage is a life based on love, patience, and a healthy amount of tolerance; it has never been a battleground. Life will undoubtedly be a lot more challenging if everything is recorded or calculated!
The idea of a life partner stems from the reality that there is a real partner who you can share your goals with, aspirations, and desires. And doesn’t compromise any of them in order to match the family model that is, in some way, ingrained in society. Every family has a different life & different conditions, and every father and mother has different abilities from other families. Making life simpler and meeting some of the necessities that enable us to fulfill our duties to our children, to each other, and to ourselves is the rational and pleasant course of action in this situation.
