"ZAT" is an identity
Following passion is a long pursuit with its ups and downs. Moreover, it requires going out of the comfort zone to discover the undiscovered.
This is how ZAT concept was found and created.
We have Alaa Mahfouz herself to tell us more about her story.
In the beginning, Tell us about yourself? How old are you? What did you study?
I am Alaa Mahfouz and have 33 years old.
I studied interior design at Alexandria university.
From the first year at college, I didn't like it.
Let's say that my real passion ever since I was a little girl was skincare.
And your business, Tell us the story? How did it all start?
Growing up as a teenager, I never had a perfect skin.
I suffered from acne, acne scars, and pigmentation.
That affected my character and my self-confidence.
And this was how it all started.
My family has been in the pharmacy business for 50 years, so I had access to try formulas and organic ingredients and started experimenting on my skin.
After a while of following a routine, my skin glowed, and it boosted my self-confidence a lot.
It was the time for the second step.
I joined my family business and received training in several companies related to the field.
I also studied dermatology to learn more about skin.
Finally, I decided to start my own business with my own money.
I decided to start my skincare company.
Besides being my passion, I knew a lot about the market and competitors.
But why "ZAT"? What does it stand for?
ZAT means "Your True Self" in Arabic.
I see that the most important thing a woman must do is to take care of herself. Because everybody is temporary in our life: your children will grow up and pick their path eventually.
So, we need to take care of ourselves, and our skin is part of us.
If you don't take care of it will age quickly.
No matter how busy you are, ten minutes before sleep for a skincare ritual is what I want every woman to do through ZAT.
It is a form of self-care and affordable luxury for every woman.
Tell us about your range and products? How different are they from the rest in the market?
At ZAT, we have four products so far that are very simple yet effective.
They are the foaming facial wash, the peeling serum, the moisturizer cream, and the eye cream.
All of the products are packed with vitamins and hyaluronic acid that tends to fix the skin problems and helps it to look healthy.
ZAT's products are different from the rest in the market because we tried to create a 100% Egyptian, high-quality product that can compete in the international market. We ensured they are organic as much as possible as we extracted the active ingredients from organic materials.
Then they are highly concentrated: to create a product that can solve the problem it was made for to solve.
Also, the packaging was something we took into consideration.
The glass bottles are eco-friendly and can be reused, and the stickers are high-quality.
I want to provide the best experience for women every time they use ZAT's products.
So, tell us about your favorite product in your line?
My friends and I have tested all of my products for a while to make sure they are effective.
So, I love them all.
But if I have to pick a favorite, it will be the peeling serum.
I have tried professional peeling in clinics and at home, but it is risky.
It can cause skin burning and permanent pigmentation.
Therefore, my dream was to create a peeling product to be safe and affordable for every woman.
It is a unique product, and there is nothing else like it in the local market.
What are your expansion plans? What are your plans for 2021?
I am willing for more exposure.
I want my products to be in pharmacies across the country.
I wish to reach every woman who cares about the skin and unleash her true self and try ZAT products and hear their feedback.
And, what would you like to tell other girls and women out there?
To be herself and listen to her desires.
Sometimes the social pressure women to look or act in a certain way.
On the contrary, we should encourage women in whatever they choose to do, whether they choose to work or be stay-home mums and so on.
I wish to break the stereotypes that success only has one form.
Every woman can be successful in her way.
If you have the power to effectively make a change that will make women's lives better, what would it be?
As I said before, I want to break the stereotypes that women have to face every day in society.
Every woman is writing her own story and living her dream.
So, if I have the chance to make a change, I want to stand against judgments that women have to deal with them.
We enjoyed our interview with Alaa Mahfouz.
We hope her story inspired you to follow your passion.
